My
video mediated micro lesson - 2 has helped me to analyze the way I dealt with
the lesson. I believe that I was able to overcome some of the errors that I
made in my first Video-mediated Reflective Micro lesson (VMRMT). It gave me contentment,
however, leaving a few lapses behind.
Initially,
before the start of my micro lesson I had a determination to adhere to the
principles that were instructed by our professor. I chose a single skill to be
taught and I didn’t want to introduce my lesson abruptly, but, with a small
question/anecdote/riddle. Moreover, I wanted to plan my lesson that would not
go beyond ten minutes.
At
first, I started my session with a small riddle and later introduced my lesson
to the students. I told them how confusing prepositions are at times,
especially, ‘by’ and ‘with’. I gave them
as many examples as possible. I also elicited some information from the
students, and that initially helped me to engage a student – centered class.
Secondly,
I planned a variety of activities to teach the single skill to the students.
First, I made them repeat the rule that I had taught in the class and asked
them to give examples on the point that I taught them. To my amusement, the students
gave numerous answers and responded enthusiastically. Secondly, I took a
picture of a ‘Dog’ and asked them a few questions on the picture, and they
answered with ease. Next, I took out a box containing a few objects and
conducted an activity.
Next, one of the negative aspects of my Micro
lesson was that it exceeded the intended duration of 10 minutes and went on for
13 minutes and 30 seconds. I suppose the classroom dynamics led me to exceed
the time limit. While it contributed to a much great interaction than I had
expected, I should be careful not to exceed the time limit when I teach a micro lesson next
time.
My Strengths:
- Learning from the
failures of my earlier micro lesson and strengthening the effective
aspects of my teaching.
- Creating
interaction through a variety of activities.
- Being able to make my
lesson engaging.
My Plan of Action
·
Plan well for a micro
teaching lesson keeping the topic and time in top priority.
·
The activities/
exercises chosen to achieve the objectivities should be even more effective.
·
Make the classroom more
interactive.
·
Make sure that there is
smooth transition between the activities conducted.
